Advantages of Exposed Aggregate for Your Yard

Blog

Choosing the flooring for your outdoor entertainment areas, for patios and pool decks, is an important decision. Being one of the main hardscape elements in a garden, the paving's colour and texture will shape the environment. Additionally, it needs to wear well and outlast what nature can throw at it. One possibility to consider is exposed aggregate — here are several advantages.

No Join Lines

Unlike pavers, exposed aggregate forms one continuous surface that isn't broken up with multiple messy join lines. Thus, it gives your patio or driveway a clean and spacious feel. However, the aggregates make sure the surface isn't boring, imbuing it with colour and texture.

Makes the Most of Curves

Because exposed aggregate is poured on-site, you can create free-flowing curves to blend the paving in with the natural landscape. The sweeps will be smooth and rounded — more so than when filled with individual pavers. With exposed aggregate, the uninterrupted perimeter contours become the focus rather than the paver patterns.

Low Maintenance

Because exposed aggregate forms an unbroken surface, weeds can't sprout from underneath as they can between tiles. Additionally, you don't need to worry about pavers leaning out of place and forming gaps as the sand erodes. Your surface might require periodic sealing, however, which your contractor can advise on.

Design Options

When installing exposed aggregate, you customise it for your particular installation. You're not merely laying pre-made pavers that you haven't had a hand in creating. You design its look depending on the aggregates you mix in, which can be pebbles, glass-pieces, shells, or other items. For a classic pastel pool deck surface, you could fill the cement with cream, white, pink, fawn, and pale grey stones. Alternatively, produce a different effect using black and deep blue pebbles. The cement that holds the aggregates can display any colour also, as contractors can add pigments to the mix before pouring.

Excellent Traction

Your outdoors areas not only need to look attractive, but they should be safe. The textured surface of exposed aggregate provides traction to minimise slipping. The paving will feel different depending on whether you include angular crushed stones or pebbles rounded by organic forces like running river water. Another factor that influences the texture is the size of the aggregates, which range from pea-size to bigger chunks. Your concrete services can advise on the relative traction provided by different combinations and suggest what's best for your home.

Creating a new parking zone

We have had a space out by the back of the shop for parking since the shop opened. But we noticed that fewer and fewer customers were using it and more customers mentioned the lack of parking in our area. It turned out that they didn't like parking on the back, unsealed lot as this made their shoes muddy and their car dirty. We used a concrete contractor to come and seal the carpark as well as mark out defined parking bays. The customers love it and we have noticed an increase in business. This site talks about how small businesses can create parking spaces with concreting to improve their customer experience.
