What To Consider When Choosing If You Need An Above- Or Below-Ground Water Tank

Blog

Water tanks are a vital feature for a lot of Australian homes, particularly in more rural areas where water is harder to come by and every last drop counts. If you are considering installing a water tank on your property, then you no double have had to debate the idea of whether you want an above- or below-ground tank. There are quite a few noticeable differences between the two options, so don't make a hurried choice. Here are three factors that you need to consider before you sign any contract for an above- or below-ground water tank.

Strength

Underground tanks are often made of concrete because they can stand up to the weight of all the soil around them while also keeping the water fresh and secure for decades with very little maintenance. This means that underground water tanks are often built to last better than their above-ground counterparts. While you certainly can find concrete tanks that are made to be placed above ground, most of your options will be plastic or metal, which have their own advantages but are nowhere near as strong as concrete.

Proximity

If you want a large water tank that is close enough to your home to collect water, then often people will choose to put it below ground so that they do not crowd the perimeter of their house. Concrete underground water tanks can be quite large and yet stay within a reasonable distance so that you don't have dozens of metres of underground piping for it to get to the tank. The less distance means the less water wasted and the quicker your tank will fill up. If you don't mind the idea of a large tank adjoined to the side of your home, then that can be an option for you as well.

Size

If you want a water tank that is fully built for your needs and your needs only, then choosing concrete underground water tanks is the best option for a few reasons. Firstly, because it is made from concrete, it can be custom fitted to whatever size you need, from tiny to monolithic. In addition to that, you can shape the water tank around any natural barriers that might be in the way. Other types of water tanks such as metal and plastic come in shapes and sizes predetermined by the manufacturer, so they are not as easily customisable.

Creating a new parking zone

We have had a space out by the back of the shop for parking since the shop opened. But we noticed that fewer and fewer customers were using it and more customers mentioned the lack of parking in our area. It turned out that they didn't like parking on the back, unsealed lot as this made their shoes muddy and their car dirty. We used a concrete contractor to come and seal the carpark as well as mark out defined parking bays. The customers love it and we have noticed an increase in business. This site talks about how small businesses can create parking spaces with concreting to improve their customer experience.
