Why Concrete Block Retaining Walls Are The Pragmatic Choice

Blog

Retaining walls are a very valuable part of the layout in most peoples gardens. Slopes and sharp inclines can make gardens look very uninviting without retaining walls, but choosing the right one can be difficult as there are so many options. Traditionally, wooden retaining walls have been the most popular, but going this route is a mistake as these walls often have trouble surviving for long periods of time, even if they are chemically treated. Here are a few reasons why you should always choose concrete block retaining walls over the competition, especially wooden alternatives.

Easy To Install

Because they are created in a block like formation, these retaining walls are very simple to install and many people even end up doing it themselves with no expert help. Wooden retaining walls are far more complicated to put in. In fact, if you do it wrong, you'll have to start the whole process over again. Concrete retaining walls, therefore, make more sense for the bulk of people who do not want to spend several hours on this project.

King Of Durability

Concrete is known for being one of the most durable and strongest building materials, as it is used in the foundations of skyscrapers and huge dams as well as your average, everyday home. When you put it in the open, against all the elements, concrete block retaining walls stay relatively free of any signs of wear and tear, although the facade may be bleached by the sun over many years. Fortunately, this can be fixed with a new coat of paint. Overall, concrete block walls will not show signs of rotting or weakening, like wood, and they hold their shape and design far better than most other materials would when put under the same conditions.

Customisation

There are so many options for block retaining walls, from the very basic to the elaborately decorated. You can have concrete block walls imitate brick or stone, and you can choose what colour you want from a plethora of popular options. If you do not see what you want for sale, ask the local retailer if they could order any in or customize it. You can do all of this customisation safe in the knowledge that it will not impact the strength of your wall and that they survive for many decades.

Creating a new parking zone

We have had a space out by the back of the shop for parking since the shop opened. But we noticed that fewer and fewer customers were using it and more customers mentioned the lack of parking in our area. It turned out that they didn't like parking on the back, unsealed lot as this made their shoes muddy and their car dirty. We used a concrete contractor to come and seal the carpark as well as mark out defined parking bays. The customers love it and we have noticed an increase in business. This site talks about how small businesses can create parking spaces with concreting to improve their customer experience.
